Perpetuating stigma is a human rights violation. When it is perpetrated in health facilities, stigma also represents a barrier to accessing and utilizing HIV services, particularly for people who are most vulnerable to HIV due to their race, gender identity, sexual orientation, economic status, or other considerations. IAPAC is training clinicians and allied health professionals to prioritize human rights; engage in non-judgmental dialogue with people living with HIV; and deliver stigma-free HIV services. We are also promoting clinician uptake of the destigmatizing Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) message: people living with HIV who are on antiretroviral therapy and have an undetectable viral load for six months or more and take their medications as prescribed pose effectively no risk of transmitting HIV to their sexual partners.
