Staying in HIV Care: The Path to U=U

In support of the peer education objective of the joint UNAIDS-IAPAC 15-City Fast-Track Cities project, IAPAC developed and has deployed an innovative peer education tool aimed at facilitating group counseling for newly diagnosed people living with HIV to understand the importance of initiating and remaining adherent to antiretroviral therapy  to achieve viral suppression. Evidence shows that viral suppression, otherwise known as undetectable viral load, translates into zero risk of transmitting the virus from HIV-positive to HIV-negative sexual partners, which is the basis of the U=U (undetectable equals untransmittable) message. Staying in HIV Care: The Path to U=U has been used as a peer education tool in 12 African countries, Jakarta, Jamaica, and Ukraine since 2020.

Positive Living with HIV: Treatment Initiation

Among the myriad tools that IAPAC utilizes to assist peer educators in their work to support people living with HIV is an innovative peer education tool known as a Conversation Map. The tool facilitates group counseling for newly diagnosed people living with HIV as they navigate the journey from diagnosis to acceptance to making health and lifestyle decisions in consultation with their clinicians. Positive Living with HIV: Treatment Initiation has been used as a peer education tool in the United States since 2008.
