The International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC) will host the 2022 Controlling the HIV Epidemic Summit on World AIDS Day 2022 (December 1, 2022) as a series of invited talks featuring innovative ideas about accelerating progress towards achieving and sustaining HIV epidemic control.

Clinicians, researchers, public health experts, civil society representatives, community advocates, and other stakeholders are invited to submit applications to secure speaker slots to present their innovative ideas at this one-day virtual Summit. In the interest of casting a wide net for innovative ideas, IAPAC is not providing applicants with specific domains and/or parameters. However, IAPAC encourages ideas related to adaptive approaches, community engagement, creative financing, data for action, health and social equity, people-centered responses, and building resilience.

Applicants must submit a 400-word abstract that describes the innovative idea and outlines a proposed talk that articulates and frames the idea within the context of HIV epidemic control. Application review criteria will include:

  • Technical accuracy
  • Speaker knowledge, lived experience
  • Degree of innovation
  • Bridge between policy and practice
  • Thought-leadership perspective
  • Degree to which health inequity addressed
  • Presentation of successes and/or challenges
  • Interactive and engaging delivery
  • Includes real-world case studies, examples, and stories
  • Speaker presentation experience

Speakers are asked to provide an abstract that describes their presentation. IAPAC is not seeking lectures but instead 20-minute, insightful, innovative, thought-provoking talks designed to engage and challenge the Summit audience. The maximum abstract word limit is 400 words.

Please structure the abstract as follows:

  • Title of proposed talk
  • Background/rationale for innovative idea
  • General description of innovative idea
  • Brief content/presentation overview
  • Expected outcomes

Following is the review rubric that an expert panel will utilize to adjudicate submitted applications:

Evaluation Criteria Maximum Score
Scientific rigor 10
Relevance to HIV epidemic control 10
Degree of innovation 10
Challenge to conventional thinking 5
Potential to engage the audience 5
Maximum Possible Score 40

Applications will be reviewed by an expert panel co-chaired by representatives from IAPAC and the World Health Organizations (WHO) and including partner organizations including the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) and Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+).
