Breakfast Discussions, Invited Panels Announced

Dr. Paul Farmer Confirmed Keynote Speaker

Dr. Paul Farmer, Presley Professor of Medical Anthropology in the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard University and an attending physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, is the confirmed Keynote Speaker at next year's 4th International Conference on HIV Treatment Adherence.

Dr. Farmer is one of the founders of Partners In Health (PIH), an international health and social justice organization. In 1987, PIH began its work in Cange, which is in the Central Plateau of Haiti; it has since developed into a worldwide health organization. The PIH hospital in Haiti provides free treatment to patients. PIH helps patients living in poverty to obtain effective drugs to treat tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS. In addition to his hospital in Haiti, Dr. Farmer oversees projects in Russia, Rwanda, Lesotho, Malawi, and Peru.

Dr. Farmer will deliver his Keynote Address - "Community-Based Care for Chronic Infectious Disease in International and US Domestic Settings" - from 9:00 am - 9:30 am, Monday, April 6, 2009.

Plenary Speakers Confirmed

Plenary Speakers have now been confirmed, among whom is former US Ambassador Mark Dybul, who until recently oversaw the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). His Plenary Address - "Advancing Adherence in Resource-Poor Settings Through Public Health Evaluations" - will take place from 9:30 am - 10:00 am, Monday, April 6, 2009, immediately following Dr. Paul Farmer's Keynote Address.
